After graduating in Philosophy, Viv Fongenie started as a journalist on the NME where he reviewed fiction, film and theatre. Having won national awards for his stage plays, he went on to study film and made his first short, Taking The Bump, before his feature debut, LET’S STICK TOGETHER, which picked up a number of awards across international film festivals.
In 2007 Viv was invited to Canada by the British Council as an emerging UK director. In 2010 he wrote and directed OLLIE KEPLER’S EXPANDING PURPLE WORLD, which was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Outstanding British Feature and was released theatrically in 2013.
Viv has developed original screenplays with Film 4, the BBC and the UK Film Council and currently has 2 features in development, one with Sean McKittrick, L.A. based producer of GET OUT and the cult classic, DONNIE DARKO. Outside of film, Viv’s extensive work in the world of mental health includes the publication of reports for the Home Office. In 2004 he made TROUBLED MINDS, a documentary focusing on psychiatric services and the Black community.
